Biography

He graduated in composition at the Milan (with Azio Corghi) and Paris Conservatories. He is particularly tuned in to the new possibilities that exist in musical theatre. In his work - from Macchinario to Lego to Cronache animali to Quando piovvero cappelli a Milano to Alianti – we often find the great classical tradition alongside jazz, songs, electronic explorations and memoirs. His attitude allows him to exceed the norm of the cultured musical fashions of the 20th and 21st centuries; this together with his care for the relationship with the listener have granted him an independent position within the realms of international composition.

His music is recorded on various monographic disks and is published by Universal, Casa Musicale Sonzogno and RaiTrade.

He is the artistic director of the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra and editor of the monthly publication Sistema Musica. He has also written a number of entries for the Treccani Encyclopaedia of Cinema. He runs the radio programme Radio3 Suite for RAI and teaches at the Holden School of Narration Techniques and at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
